It is always a blessing when those whom we minster to in their youth, grow up and display a walk of faith that clearly will eclipse our own given time. Such is the case of a dear young brother in Christ whom my wife and I had the blessing of serving in youth ministry named Chris Waipa. Before moving to Aurora, Colorado Chris was involved in a ministry that brought young people together to worship Christ. With the simple format of acoustic guitar and vocals Chris and his wife Kecia were leading upwards of 400 teens in serious pursuit of Christ – clear evidence of the grace upon their lives.

For the past few years they have been quiet, waiting on the Father to speak concerning His will for their future. And if the most recent stirrings are any indication I look forward to what He reveals through them. On their website, refugeonline.com they have posted a document titled “77 Counts of Abuse in Christianity Today.” Below are some of my favorites and a link to the full document.

“Programmed Christianity drives leaders to peddle for money, rather than teach Christians to give to one another as Christ gave His life for His friends.”

“Programmed Christianity makes the Kingdom of God appear to be no different than a social relief program, just another group of activists promoting their agenda with no power of God to distinguish God’s Kingdom from the world’s kingdoms.”

“Popularizing Christianity is a dangerous undertaking. The message of the Cross will always be offensive to a world that loves their sin.”

“The world is in more desperate need to see Christians wear the Cross on their hearts, rather than see it displayed as a fashion statement.”

“Ministers who live extravagant lifestyles at the expense of other people’s gifts or by overcharging for products are thieves and have robbed from God.”

“The Apostles shook the earth with the message of the Cross, and it was attained by the power of God, not the power of the dollar.”

“The core foundation of Scriptural prosperity is the inheritance of Jesus Christ Himself. Any other message but this promotes humanism, which is the corrupt philosophy that God rei(g)ns in Heaven for our benefit, rather than the truth that we were created for His Glory.”

“Saving Grace should never be misunderstood as the justification of sin and a worldly lifestyle; we may not have yet attained perfection, but God’s Divine nature living in us will never incline us to sin but will enable us to move towards perfection.”

And lastly,

“Through the abuses of Scripture, we have promoted sin and secularized Christianity. This has caused an unregenerate world to call themselves Christians who are no Christians at all.”

The heart of such young people remind me of 1 John 2:14: “I have written to you who are young because you are strong with God’s word living in your hearts, and you have won your battle with Satan.”
